“Mom and Dad…can I please Bookboard before bedtime?” - That was a question asked by kids all around the globe this week!

After months of hard work and obsession to build the best reading experience for families, Bookboard launched in public beta and brought joy to more than 1000 readers in the past few days. Families from over 30 countries including the U.K, South Africa, and South Korea were able to discover and unlock great books and enjoy tens of thousands of beautiful story pages!

Opening up Bookboard to you all has been an exciting step forward in our mission to revolutionize family reading. While it has been wonderful to see our own children enjoying the early fruits of our labor, this week provided feedback which caused all of us to take pause for a moment, and then return to work extra invigorated to continue our mission:

“Last night, using one of Bookboard’s beginning readers selections, Maya said “I want to try and read this page to you myself.” That was the first time she expressed the itch to read, versus being read to.

Husband and I shot each other silent happy looks, passed the tablet to her, and watched. She drew on her phonics lessons, sounding out letters and words, each new word figured out a victory. The excitement built for all three of us as she made it through both sentences in slow, determined fashion. She shouted each word upon figuring it out in a “Eureka!” like fashion, finally stringing the words into the coherent sentences on her own.

When she finished, there was a moment where we all just stared at each other, our eyes popping open wide, smiles frozen on our faces. Then we all leapt up and began doing a happy dance. My daughter hooted and hollered for five solid minutes. And I laughed and welled up at the same time. It was an amazing moment to share as a family.

Thanks for being part of our reading journey, helping to both motivate and make it fun.”

Thank you to Maya, Diana, and our entire Bookboarding community for making the journey so far very rewarding, and we can’t wait for you to see what else in store!
